Reliability in Remanufactured Braking Components

The risks involved with carrying heavy loads across the country on a daily basis are widely known within the CV industry. CVW investigates how Roadlink International seeks to ensure operator peace of mind, by producing the highest quality remanufactured braking components.

Calipers

Efficiency and diligence are key to the remanufacturing process. To this end, Roadlink staff follow a step-by-step guide when remanufacturing calipers, which includes: examining the caliper core; stripping and washing the core components; checking for damage and excessive wear to all usable components; building the caliper with new OE quality parts; and, finally, extensive testing to ensure quality.

All strip and build staff are multi-skilled and trained throughout all stages of the process, whilst being regularly audited to maintain quality control for each caliper made. With the recent launch of its £750,000 and 680sqm caliper remanufacturing facility in Willenhall, West Midlands, the company’s commitment to supplying reliable products is evident.

The investment is believed to be the solution to the growing demand for remanufactured products, with industry professionals opting for a more cost effective alternative that offers the same quality as a brand new part.

All Roadlink remanufactured brake caliper units are fully tested and engineered to perform as well as the original or better, representing the high standards the company hopes to achieve. Despite the labour-intensive process required in remanufacturing brake calipers, the cost benefits can be significant, offering sizeable savings in comparison to manufacturing or buying a brand new caliper.

When it comes to safety-critical parts such as braking products, customers need reassurance and should ensure parts come with a solid warranty. With this in mind, all Roadlink remanufactured calipers come complete with a full warranty and product liability insurance with only original specification components used.

Brake shoes

Having established its position over a number of years in the CV brake shoe market, the company now claims to have one of the largest ranges in Europe, covering more than 200 references.

Roadlink exchange brake shoes are available with a choice of OE quality brake linings from leading manufacturers to suit all types of truck, trailer and PCV operations. The company’s brake shoe reline operation was the first in the UK to achieve the coveted Brake Assured status, which guarantees that brake shoes are fully remanufactured to the highest product quality possible, says the company.

Every Roadlink exchange brake shoe carries a unique serial number that allows the company to trace every product that is released. The long-life parts are said to be kind to drums and have extensive coverage for truck, trailer and bus applications.

Stopping trucks on the track

To further promote its remanufactured braking components, the manufacturer has sponsored Steve Powell, racing in his first season in the British Truck Racing Association’s Division One, after winning
Division Two in 2015. Powell said: “We had a great first season competing among the best truck racers in the country and it’s fantastic that we can rely on a quality supplier. The sport is becoming more competitive but we’re working with Roadlink to ensure we maximise any advantage we have with regards to the vehicle and its components. I have been working alongside the supplier looking at braking technologies and compounds and the vehicle is really responding. Now we’re looking forward to even bigger and better things in 2017!”
