ACFO urges fleet managers to book for spring seminar

Around 150 fleet decision-makers have so far registered to attend this year’s ACFO spring seminar, which turns the spotlight on ‘Let’s Explore: Fleet Management for Today and Tomorrow’.

With just over a week to go before the seminar takes place on 18th May at the Vox Conference Centre, Resorts World, Birmingham, starting at 10am, those fleet chiefs still wishing to attend are being urged to register their attendance as soon as possible.

The spring seminar is being sponsored by TomTom Telematics, a business unit of TomTom dedicated to fleet management, vehicle telematics and connected car services, and Lex Autolease, the UK’s largest contract hire and leasing company.

Fleet management is changing at an unprecedented pace with new technologies, data usage and compliance to the fore, and all those issues and the impact they are having on vehicles, drivers and journeys will be discussed by expert speakers at the seminar.

Delegates will hear from:

  • Thomas Schmidt, Managing Director, TomTom Telematics
  • Craig McNaughton, Corporate Director, Lex Autolease
  • Alex Matheson, Lawyer at legal and professional services firm Gordon Dadds
  • Dr Lisa Dorn. Associate Professor of driver behaviour and Director of Driving Research Group, Cranfield University
  • George de Boer, leader of connected car initiatives, TomTom Telematics
  • Graham Short, an ACFO member and Fleet Manager at Norfolk-headquartered Zip Water (UK), which operates a TomTom Telematics-equipped vehicle fleet, who will provide a view on efficiency, compliance and driver safety
  • Alison Moriarty, Fleet Risk and Compliance Manager, Skanska UK.

The event will conclude with a ‘Question Time’ panel, chaired by ACFO national chairman John Pryor, with guests who will include: Chris Chandler, Principal Consultant, Lex Autolease; and Justin Whitson, Chief Executive of Fleetondemand, one of Europe’s business Mobility-as-a-Service (BMaaS) leaders, as well as some of the speakers.

The venue capacity is 200 delegates and with places rapidly being booked, Mr Pryor said: “I would urge fleet decision-makers to book their places as a matter of some urgency.

“Technological and digital advances are changing the established face of fleet management as we have known it for many years. The array of expert speakers will provide insight and practical advice in specific areas effecting businesses and fleet decision-makers now and in the future that will enable them to operate more efficiently and effectively now, and plan better for the future.

“Change inevitably brings uncertainty and while fleet managers should not be afraid of the advances being made, it is essential that they understand how the ‘connected car’, BMaaS and driver demands must be balanced against running a business-critical vehicle fleet that is fit-for-purpose.

“What’s more, compliance is essential and fleet managers remain concerned as to how the new General Data Protection Regulation, which becomes effective on 25th May, will impact on their operations.”

An exhibitor area will offer delegates an opportunity to network and discover how ‘connected vehicles’ and fleet management technologies can play an increasingly important role in helping them manage their mobile workforce. Confirmed exhibitors to-date include: tyre manufacturer Apollo Vredestein; electric vehicle recharging solution specialist EVBox; fleet training provider ICFM, Lex Autolease, data and driver coaching specialist The Driving Doctor, TomTom Telematics and in-vehicle CCTV technology provider Vision Track.
