Clugston Distribution on the hunt for apprentices

As the academic year draws to a close and final year students contemplate their next career move, Clugston Distribution, one of the UK’s largest independent logistics companies and own truck fleet operator, is looking to take on the next generation of talented vehicle technicians.

Clugston Distribution Services – part of the Clugston Group – currently has six local apprentices who are at various stages of their education. Lewis, Harry, Isaac, Shane, Thomas and Jordan are undertaking a comprehensive programme with the company’s Commercial Vehicle Maintenance division that will see them gain a variety of qualifications, skills and competencies to become fully qualified commercial vehicle technicians.

The company outlines it provides a high level of internal professional support throughout the four-year programme, with in-house training and support from Clugston Managers, who are trained and approved mentors. As part of the training, residential off-site courses are necessary and for which Clugston provides travel and accommodation.

Throughout their training, the apprentices are offered continual development of their skills in outreach areas such as Welding and Fabrication, working at height and a wide range of Safe Working Procedures. The apprentices also have the opportunity to attend training roadshows in addition to receiving on-going coaching in areas such as Driver Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and dangerous goods regulations (ADR).

Director Tim Doggett said apprenticeships were an excellent way to achieve a recognised qualification without incurring student debt and to “earn while they learn”.

He said: “In over 80 years of trading, the success of Clugston has been driven by its people. Apprenticeships are just one of the opportunities we offer as we to continue to invest in our local community and our future.”
