Best known for its risk-reducing safety camera systems, ProVision has introduced a mobile app to help with compliance and accident reporting.
Previously, cameras were all about identifying and managing safety risks. Today, however, cameras are
becoming integral in compliance management systems. ProVision’s new Fleet Information Centre and mobile app has been designed to act as a one-stop shop for managing and tracking key fleet compliance details.
“In the last few years, we have seen a growing need for better reporting and visibility of incidents. Now there is recognition of the need for better compliance tracking,” explains ProVision’s Simon Walsh.
Telematics has become part of risk management, but cameras and the video footage they provide is necessary to complete the compliance and risk picture, he points out.
“When we designed our new suite of mobile apps, we took the opportunity to extend their capabilities to allow fleets to store more of the details required when an incident occurs. Being able to instantly access details after an accident is important, but it’s also important to ensure vehicles and drivers are always compliant.”
ProVision has merged four key technologies: video input systems (cameras and scanners), smart processing systems, communications systems and unique algorithms to deliver intelligent driver and fleet safety systems.
At the heart of this, is the new app that helps managers supplement data collection. It includes a menu for a driver’s daily walk-round safety check and another for guiding the driver through the accident reporting process. The app is available for both iPhone and Android.
The Checks Management section of the app allows key data to be collected and stored, and it is easy to recall and codify specific details during a trip review or following an incident. The checks can be customisable to suit, for example, FORS or CLOCs requirements.
The Accident Reporting section takes the driver through the process, helping ensure all relevant data is collected. The driver can store photos and video, input text and descriptions, and tag reports with a time and data stamp. Drivers can also record third-party witness and police information, and pinpoint specific footage recorded by the in-vehicle cameras.
The app can be used as a stand-alone product or integrated with ProVision’s cloud-based Command Centre. Data is uploaded and stored, alongside driver details such as driving licence information and CPC registration.
Is your camera good enough?
When selecting a camera system for risk management or compliance, it’s important certain criteria are met, advises Walsh.
1 ►How frequent are vehicle position updates? Some position polls are only every 30 seconds, which can be insufficient should an incident occur.
2 ► Can you check the camera is actually working? ProVision cameras have a “Is it Working” pre-trip check incorporated. Operators can check the system on each vehicle is working prior to every trip.
3 ► Do you need a mobile hard drive to store data, or will SD cards be sufficient? If using SD cards, are you able to confirm remotely that the card is docked correctly?
