Liftmaster helps meet DVSA requirements

A long-standing customer approached Liftmaster with an urgent requirement: to upgrade their ATF and become compliant with the latest DVSA regulations ahead of the fast-approaching deadline – and the company was more than willing to help! CVW finds out more.

The new DVSA guidelines have presented some challenges for authorised testing facility (ATF), with the April deadline for Laden testing now passed and the December deadline for the software upgrades still upcoming, it means that, for a large majority of ATFs, equipment upgrades have been necessary to remain compliant.

Their current brake testing system was outdated, and, to remain compliant the customer would require a full upgrade to their existing set up. After consultation, the BM14200 in-ground roller brake tester was identified as the ideal solution due to its exceptional reliability, ease of use, and full compatibility with DVSA requirements. Additionally, it was able to fit into the existing brake tester recess, ensuring minimal groundworks were required.

This, in turn, saved the customer money and ensured any disruption to the testing facility was kept to a minimum. Should major groundwork have been required, the Liftmaster’s groundwork team would have been up to the challenge!

As an item normally kept in stock, Liftmaster were able to respond quickly. A project start date and schedule were agreed. The schedule meant that the work could be carried out within a three-day period. Liftmaster were then able to;

  • Remove the existing brake tester.
  • Modify the duct entry point.
  • Install and commission the new brake tester.

This ensured Liftmaster delivered a seamless upgrade to a live functioning ATF lane with minimal disruption to daily operations.

Site assessment and planning

Liftmaster provided a turnkey solution, managing every stage of the process from initial planning and site preparation to equipment commissioning and aftercare support. Our installation team conducted a comprehensive site survey to assess the space available and understand the requirements for the recessed brake tester installation. From there, we created a tailored project plan designed to meet the tight deadline while ensuring compliance and safety at every stage.

Installing the BM14200 brake tester

Once the groundwork was modified, our installation team installed the BM14200 In-ground brake tester. Built for high-volume ATF use, the system was connected, calibrated, and tested to ensure 100% accuracy and full compliance with the DVSA regulations.

This brake tester not only fulfilled the immediate compliance requirement but also provided long-term benefits to the workshop by streamlining testing procedures, increasing throughput, and improving operational efficiency.

The outcome

Thanks to Liftmaster’s end-to-end management, the customer’s workshop was fully upgraded within the 6-week deadline. The site passed its DVSA compliance checks with no issues and was able to continue testing with minimal disruption to service.

The BM14200 brake tester now ensures all vehicle tests are carried out to the highest standard, with digital traceability and reduced manual input.
