Textar Virtual Academy aims to bridge skills gap
Premium brake brand, Textar, has launched a new, easily accessible online training programme, providing brake training advice for industry professionals on any device, across the globe.
Bringing manufacturer expertise to the aftermarket, the e-learning platform ensures users stay current with the latest advancements in braking technology, and the first 500 to sign up will receive access to the Academy completely free of charge, according to the company.
Created to deliver what it claims is the most comprehensive brake training in the IAM to the aftermarket, Textar’s Virtual Academy gives access to the latest updates, training and best practices in the automotive industry. Specifically developed by professionals, and available in five languages, the platform features individual courses with modules that can be completed by members at their own pace, for both PC and CV audiences. As part of the campaign, it’s said users can earn points for each training module completed to compete against other users globally to improve their ranking in a leaderboard for a chance to win prizes.
Other key features of Textar’s Virtual Academy include easy-to-follow videos, tutorials, FAQs, evaluations and much more, designed to bridge the skills gap within the automotive industry which is currently at a reported 20,000+ vacancies in the UK alone. The platform provides product training for replacing, maintaining, and servicing brakes. Courses are designed to develop practical skills for all levels, from experienced mechanics and technical managers to apprentices and students. Participants also receive a training certificate after completing a course.
Scott Iwrin FIMI, Head of Technical Training at TMD Friction, said: “It has always been important to us at TMD Friction to inspire and teach the next generation of mechanics, but to also keep qualified garage owners in the know with latest developments in best practice. The launch of Textar’s Virtual Academy helps us meet this challenge, bridging the skills gap, making it more accessible and easier than ever before to complete training in your own time.
“The feedback from the face-to-face training we deliver has always been excellent, and we have seen a direct reduction in warranty claims globally as a result over the last five years.
However, the Textar Virtual Academy helps us to take that training to the next level to provide ongoing support and education to the industry.”
The Textar Virtual Academy will initially be available in the U.S., Mexico, and parts of Europe, including the UK, Ireland, Germany, Poland, and Romania. It is available in five languages, with plans to expand, according to TMD Friction. Having launched on 20th January 2025, the company says the first 250 PC and 250 CV sign-ups will receive free access to the academy.
Scott concluded: “TMD Friction is a leader within the automotive industry, and we’re looking forward to the next steps following the launch of the platform. There is a lot more on the horizon that we’re really excited to announce as it grows, so watch this space.”
