The importance of windscreen repair

Victoria Evans, director of Esprit Windscreen Repair Equipment, emphasises the importance of windscreen repair when it comes to fleet management.

When you run a fleet of vehicles, those vehicles have to be on the road to make money. If one of your vehicles gets a chipped windscreen, you lose valuable road time in waiting for a repairer to visit your site. Additionally, you have to pay for the repair, costing you money twice over.

Many fleets and commercial vehicles are now repairing with Esprit Windscreen Repair Equipment. Esprit actually started over 40 years ago primarily focused on the commercial vehicle sector, specifically the bus and coach industry. Their windscreens are so expensive to replace and at that time, back in the 1980s, there wasn’t the network of repair companies that exists today.

Fleets these days are working incredibly hard and any down time off the road for repairs can be both costly, and can affect detailed schedules, so it’s important to get vehicles back on the road as quickly as possible. Repairing with the Esprit kit aims to allow you to get your vehicle back on the job in half an hour.

The Esprit kit can repair chips, breaks and even cracks on all screens. It’s said to be one of the few kits that can repair cracks, and even some repair companies won’t attempt crack repair, even though you normally get a really good result.

How to repair

It’s simple – you clean out the break, inject resin into the damage, allow this to fill all the fissures and hairline cracks, cure it with the lamp, clean it up and you’re ready to use the vehicle again right away. You can see a repair being carried out on our website along with our instruction manuals. We want the people who buy our kit to feel really confident using the equipment and so we also offer a number of different training options when you buy an Esprit kit; you can visit our site in Staffordshire or we can come to your premises. We can train a group and we also offer refresher training for people who have repaired before, but might be a bit rusty or just want to brush up their skills. We also offer accredited IMI training and crack training.

Commercial specific

The Esprit kit can be used on all laminated windscreens, including ones with ADAS heads up displays, heated windscreens etc. We supply to hundreds of fleet companies, ranging from emergency vehicles, coach and bus companies, taxis, council fleets, truck companies and even the military.

We’ve also recently introduced a cordless lamp for repairs in tricky to reach places and this is of a real benefit to our customers as it firstly means that repairs can be carried out anywhere, and also for vehicles with larger screens, you’re not having to trail a long wire, you can just position the lamp exactly where you want it.

We’ve added this capability to our existing lamp shell, so the new lamp fits into the existing kit, and also still is a long enough lamp to carry out crack repairs, something that our fleet vehicles find very useful. So, what should fleet companies do if they want to find out more information about the Esprit kit? Well, there is a lot of information on our website, but we also love talking to our customers and potential customers about their needs. You can ring our office in Staffordshire and speak to a knowledgeable staff member about what your fleet might need, training options and the different kits we have available.
