The team at U-Pol walk you through the application of a hi-viz Raptor made-to-order colour and traction coating to a tail lift platform.
1. Surface preparation
Prepare the surface by using water or solvent based degreaser to remove dirt and any surface contaminants. Abrade the surface using a coarse sand paper such as P80. Degrease the surface again.
2. Mixing
Prepare the epoxy primer for use by thoroughly mixing four parts primer to one part hardener – a mixing ratio of 4:1.
3. Gun preparation
Attach the mixing cup containing epoxy primer to a spray gun with an air pressure of 2.0 bar. The epoxy primer can be applied using all standard CV application equipment such as airless, air assisted, HVLP and conventional spray guns amongst other methods.
4. Application
Apply two coats of epoxy primer to achieve the full dry thickness required for anti-corrosion protection. The flash off time between coats is 10 minutes and top-coating can take place after 60 minutes.
5. Made to order
Prepare the made-to-order colour by measuring out the quantity required into a mixing cup using a 4:1 mixing ratio. Attach the mixing cup to the spray gun and apply with an air pressure of 2.0 bar.
6. & 6a. Application
Apply two to three coats of the RAPTOR Made To Order colour (allowing 20 minutes flash off time between each coat). Ensure you carefully mask the area to be coated in order to avoid overspray. Please refer to the product data sheet for drying times as these vary.
7. Traction
Simply add 200g Raptor traction per 1L ready-mixed protective coating using a 3:1 mixing ratio with hardener. Then attach the bottle to a Schutz gun and adjust the air pressure between 4.0 and 4.5 bar. Apply two coats (allowing 60 minutes flash off in between) in a sweeping motion to achieve an even build.
8. Finish
And herewith: a finished tail lift platform traction coated for improved durability, visibility and excellent anti-slip properties complying with BS 7976-2. The platform was coated with RAPTOR Black and RAPTOR Made To Order Colour RAL 1023 ‘Traffic Yellow’.
