Cartwright New Refrigeration Technology Plant

Cartwright has invested £1.8 million in a new refrigeration technology plant to serve growing demand for temperature controlled vehicles.

Drawing on its expertise in finding innovative engineering solutions, it plans to build 600 temperature controlled trailers and rigids a year by 2020.

The new plant at its 38-acre base in Altrincham, Cheshire, includes a number of purpose built vacuum presses, automated gluing machines, overhead cranes along with an on-line panel routing machine.

Graham Usher, Sales and Commercial Director for Cartwright, said: “We know it’s a very competitive market place, but our latest generation of products are finished to the highest quality and have features which we know customers have been asking for.

“Customers want reduced fuel consumption and carbon footprints so we have produced a 13.6 metre trailer that is 800kgs lighter. We fit large radiused cappings as standard, saving thousands of pounds for the operator over the life time of the trailer. Customers have also expressed the need for trailers that will withstand the constant dock loading. To meet this requirement we have incorporated a steel frame into the rear of the floors which offers greater impact resistance. We have also designed the rear frame and sidewall connection to allow for greater impact absorption when the trailer reverses onto the docks. These features ensure our trailers will have great endurance in today’s 24/7 transport operations.

“We have just built a number of 13.6 metre tri-axle, single and duel temperature seed trailers for operators to trial. It is important that our potential customers experience the build quality of our new range, so if you would like to try one, please get in touch.”

“We know that the operating costs of our Direct Hydraulic Drive Systems over a 10 to 12-year life cycle will be considerably lower than those for a comparable trailer with a rope and pulley system,” explained Graham. “We know this from our experience of maintaining over 3,000 double deck trailers.”

As a true one-stop supplier, from design through to rental and finance, Cartwright can offer customers a range of finance, lease and rental options. Trailers can be rented on short, medium or long-term hire with or without 24/7 service support.
