Tools to help fleets cut costs

A company supplying fleet management software and a tyre manufacturer have joined forces to ease the load for their customers. CVW finds out what they’ve come up with.

Bridgestone and Webfleet, after conducting extensive research on their customer base, have developed four innovative tools aimed at helping fleets cut costs and save money.

This initiative is in response to the economic challenges that commercial fleets across the UK were facing, particularly in light of the rising cost of business operations.

“We want commercial fleets to know that when it comes to the cost of business crisis, we not only hear them, but we are here to support them,” said David Almazán, Bridgestone’s commercial business unit director, Bridgestone North Region.

“We are here to support them and provide them with solutions to ease their financial pressures, along with any stress and anxiety associated with their daily operations.”

The two companies commissioned a detailed study so they could understand the specific needs and challenges of their customers in the current economic climate. This research was one of the most comprehensive ever undertaken by Bridgestone and Webfleet. It involved polling over 200 UK fleet decision makers with the help of research consultancy Perspectus Global. The objective was to view the economic landscape from the unique perspective of these fleet operators and understand how they planned to navigate through it.

Findings

The findings were revealing: 85% of commercial businesses admitted they were tasked with cutting fleet spend. More than a third of HGV operators (36%) believed they would have to contract their operations, and a significant majority (69%) identified fuel as their biggest cost increase.

“We know of the business and economic challenges that they are facing right now and we know how resilient fleet operators are, not least in the wake of the Covid pandemic,” commented Almazán.

After recognising the scale of the challenges facing the sector, Bridgestone and Webfleet created four online tools designed to alleviate some of these pressures. These tools included:

  • Access to an in-depth Duravis and Ecopia research study with Coventry University to calculate potential fuel savings.
  • A Webfleet savings calculator that outlines cost reductions in a matter of seconds.
  • A Webfleet solution advisor that offers fleet efficiency improvements based on data-driven insights.
  • Downloadable e-books titled “Keeping you on the Road,” providing valuable insights and tips on tyre maintenance and best practices.

Bridgestone is also inviting businesses for a free consultation and fleet audit with one of its specialist commercial consultants to help them realize potential savings in a practical, real-world context.

This initiative by Bridgestone and Webfleet, with its focus on customer-centric solutions and sustainability, is part of Bridgestone’s broader mission to continue providing value to society and customers as a sustainable solutions company towards 2050.

The approach also aligned with its E8 Commitment, which includes eight key areas like Energy, Ecology, Efficiency, Extension, Economy, Emotion, Ease, and Empowerment, guiding its business practices in a sustainable and efficient manner.
