CVW dropped in to see Totalkare’s latest installation in Essex and found a very satisfied customer.

When Essex-based Fiveways Hire needed to add a Class 7 MOT bay to its workshop it turned to Totalkare, its garage equipment supplier, for a package that covers installation plus a service contract that includes two engineer visits for service and calibration per year.

“We have previously used Totalkare and were very happy, so it made complete sense to continue the relationship,” Emma Cheesman, Head of Development for Fiveways said. “The fact that we are provided with quality after sales service and maintenance is a big plus for us. We are very excited about the added flexibility that having the Class 7 MOT bay will bring to our business”.

Saving time and space

Throughout the process, Totalkare worked closely with Fiveways, right from design and DVSA application to civil works and installation before finishing the job with resin flooring. The result is an MOT bay that is tailored to the needs of the business and the workshop, which was already well equipped.

For instance, the light commercial 4- post lift is recessed for a flush fit to make the best use of space in the MOT bay. Fiveways Hire can now use the area taken by the lift as standing room when using the in-ground brake tester. This lift is fitted with built-in play detection plates which not only saves room by eliminating the need for a separate application but also saves time by allowing the user to perform the test while the vehicle is on the lift.

The 4-post lift is six metres long and will take vehicles weighing up to 6,500 kg while e Totalkare’s Class 7 brake tester has a 6,000kg maximum axle load and is equipped with the latest DVSA ATL software, plus a number of features such as vehicle weighing and four-wheel drive testing.

This latest investment in workshop facilities is part of the Basildon company’s continuing growth since it started in 1998, hiring out specialised commercial and municipal vehicles such as refuse collection vehicles, hook lifts, rear-end and front-end loaders, skip lorries and tippers.

Reflecting on the installation, James Atkins, Area Sales Manager, commented: “It has been a real joy to work with Fiveways Hire, it’s clear to see that as a business it is moving forward and looking towards the future, and we’re incredibly excited to support it as it continues to flourish.”
